My muscles ache like I’ve run a marathon. My head is like a prisoner pounding on his cell wall. My back is in the process of spasming and my knees are like the tin man’s. My hands and arms are screaming at me as though I’m hanging from a cliff by my pinkie fingers. My stomach is filled with migrating birds who are so confused by the local weather they’ve started flying in circles. There’s an iron fist clenched around my chest and a black hole where my heart should be, pumping hatred and charcoal through my veins. There’s a finger constantly pressing into the spot right in between my eyes, where my nose begins…constantly pushing harder and harder…until my head feels like it’s going to explode from stress. My eyes are like a bird who’s been cooped up in a cage for so long its wings are too weak to even stretch and my jaw is clenched from the falsity of my happiness.
